A scientific discipline focused on how individuals grow, change, and adapt across the lifespan. It examines cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioural development from infancy through older adulthood, with attention to both typical and atypical patterns of development.
The scientific study of the strengths, conditions, and processes that enable individuals and communities to flourish. It explores wellbeing, resilience, meaning, optimism, and human potential, with the aim of promoting fulfilling and psychologically healthy lives.
A specialist field concerned with the relationship between brain functioning, cognition, and behaviour. It involves the assessment and understanding of cognitive difficulties associated with neurological, developmental, or medical conditions, in order to support diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Sports Psychology examines the psychological factors that influence athletic performance, motivation, wellbeing, and resilience. It supports athletes, teams, and coaches in developing mental skills, managing pressure, enhancing focus, and promoting healthy participation in sport and exercise settings.
Aims to apply psychological theory and research to learning, teaching, and educational development. It focuses on understanding how individuals learn, identifying barriers to progress, and designing evidence-based strategies that support academic achievement, inclusion, and psychological wellbeing in educational environments.
A psychological specialty concerned with the assessment, formulation, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. It combines psychological theory, research, and evidence-based practice to support individuals, families, and communities in improving mental health and overall functioning.
Industrial or Organizational Psychology applies psychological principles to workplace and organisational contexts. It examines areas such as employee motivation, leadership, recruitment, performance, job satisfaction, and organisational culture in order to improve both individual wellbeing and organisational effectiveness.
Forensic Psychology applies psychological knowledge within criminal, legal, and investigative settings. It focuses on understanding behaviour related to offending, risk, rehabilitation, and justice processes, and may contribute to assessment, intervention, and decision-making within courts, prisons, and related institutions.
Criminology is the study of crime, criminal behaviour, and the social systems that shape responses to crime. It examines the causes, patterns, and consequences of offending, as well as the roles of law, punishment, prevention, and justice in society.
